Hawaii Center for Instructional Leadership LLC
Darrel Galera, President and Chief Academic Officer
A former teacher, principal of Moanalua High School, and educational specialist for principal & vice principal training for the Hawaii DOE, Darrel Galera has formed the Hawaii Center for Instructional Leadership, LLC, focusing on supporting the instructional leadership of school principals and vice principals in the Hawaii public schools. Before retiring in December 2013, he was the Castle High School Principal after serving as principal for Moanalua High School from 2000 to 2013. He also served as a Moanalua High School social studies teacher, an assistant school principal (Washington Middle, Radford High, and Moanalua High), school principal (King Intermediate, Aiea Elementary), advanced education technology state specialist, and Deputy District Superintendent for the Leeward Oahu District. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree and Masters in Education Administration degree from the University of Hawaii. He was the Chairperson for the Hawaii High School Leadership Compact (from 2007 to 2014) and was Hawaii’s 2010 National Distinguished High School Principal of the Year. Galera served as a member of the Hawaii State Board of Education from 2016 to 2017 and is the Chairperson of the Governor's ESSA Team for the Hawaii Blueprint for Public Education. He is a facilitator for One Shared Future leadership training. He is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.
